Introducing Peaks & Valleys

Happy Thursday everyone! When starting my blog, I made a promise to myself to be authentic with all of you. As you know, Full of Heart is a place where I share the things I’m absolutely passionate about. And something I am absolutely passionate about is authenticity – being real and relatable to you. I of course want to show the happy, glamorous, and positive times with all of you, while hoping to instill good vibes with you. But, I believe it’s just as important to share the bad, not so glamorous, and negative times as well. It makes me happy when I can find influencers, bloggers and YouTubers that are real with me. But it can be hard to find those genuine people sometimes so I hope I can be a source of that for you!

I am thrilled to introduce my new series with you, “Peaks and Valleys.” At the end of each month, I’ll be sharing with you the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, the peaks and valleys of my month. You know the quote, “Everyday might not be good, but there is something good in everyday”? Well, the same can be true for the months. I know it can sometimes seem like nothing is going your way or you can’t catch a break, but it’s important that during those times, you keep your head held high and try to find the positive, whether it’s how you handle that difficult situation, or something else good that happens to you. So let’s get it started!

I would have to say that my biggest peak of May was Ryan and I celebrating our one year wedding anniversary, duh! I still can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I married the love of my life, my best friend! Since Ryan was in an out of town wedding the same weekend as our anniversary, we decided to make lemonade out of the lemons we were dealt with, and we had a mini anniversary getaway in Natchitoches, LA. We spent our time there exploring the town, eating delicious food, and enjoying the culture and sights. We also looked at our wedding photos, watched our wedding video, and ended our anniversary with eating the top tier of our wedding cake once we got home that we had saved in our freezer. It was a wonderful weekend filled with so much love reliving the best day of our lives!

But, I was brought down from that high real quick. After being out of town for three days for that wedding and our anniversary, we returned home to find that my car had flooded due to the horrible weather our area experienced all weekend long. There was about an inch of water just sitting in my car and even more when I pressed on the floor. I couldn’t believe it! In that moment, I just kept thinking, “This is just my luck,” and “I can’t ever catch a break!” Our neighbor was an angel, and helped us vacuum out the water and use his dehumidifier to absorb more moisture. I just kept praying that my car would start. If it didn’t start, I didn’t know what we were going to do. We really didn’t have any extra money saved up for a big expense like this. I sat in the seat, turned the key in the ignition, and praise be to God, it started!!! This was over two weeks ago, and my car has been running just fine! Unfortunately, my car still smells musty, but I will take that over a fully broken car any day

This is a valley that I constantly struggle with, but day by day I try to turn it around into a peak. I was so excited for our weekend beach trip to Gulf Shores during Memorial Day weekend. Ryan and I had been on the go constantly the past few weeks so this trip was just what we needed. But I will say, when we initially booked the trip I was dreading getting “bikini body ready.” And I’m sure you all have felt that pressure at some point in your life. I was semi-dieting, working out here and there to try and get ready for the trip, and was just getting discouraged everytime I stepped on the scale and wasn’t seeing results. Then, I had this realization… You don’t need to be perfect, smoother, or smaller to have a bikini body. You know how you have a bikini body? You take a bikini, put it on, and BOOM, you’ve got a bikini body! I know it’s easier said than done, but trust me. If you have confidence in how you look, you will feel happier! And why was I freaking out about how my body looked? It’s not like anyone on the beach was going to be checking me out. Well, maybe Ryan, haha, but he loves me no matter what I look like!

I hardcore dieted and worked out for my wedding a little over a year ago, and I was in the best shape I had ever been in! Then life happens, you get back into your everyday routine, and slowly start putting the weight back on. It’s a daily struggle for me to accept that how I looked for my wedding isn’t realistic and that I have to live my life and enjoy it! How my body looks now – the place it naturally wants to be – that’s my life. Devouring a whole pizza with Ryan after we’ve had a bad day, late night cocktails with my girlies, brunch on the weekend with my family. This is me. Imperfections and all. But, my body is healthy and gets me where I need to go! And that’s what matters! We only have a short amount of time on this earth, and I need to stop wasting it wishing I was different, better, smaller, or unflawed. And that goes for all of you, as well!

Once I accepted my body and how I looked, I was able to fully relax and enjoy this much needed trip to Gulf Shores, which was my final peak for the month of May. Even though it was only a three day trip, we made the most out of our time there. We hung out with friends, laid on the beach, played in the water and did a ton of body surfing, played games, had a few (well more than a few) cocktails, and just enjoyed each other’s company. I felt so rejuvenated at the end of the trip and absolutely blessed that this is my life that I get to live. Do I struggle at times? You betcha! But do I let it consume me? Absolutely not!

Surround yourself with people who are going to lift you higher. Don’t sweat the small stuff. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Are these clichés? Yes. By definition, a cliché is “a phrase or opinion that is overused.” These ARE sayings that are overused; you hear them all the time. But yet, there is still so much negativity in the world, so much self doubt. When you feel like you’re down and nothing is going your way, try to focus on the positive, the good things going on in your life, or figure out how you are going to overcome these tough times. Because remember, tough times don’t last, tough people do. I just had to throw in one more cliché for ya! 🙂
