What I Find Attractive in a Man

A couple of weeks ago, I published a blog post called “The Dating Game.” People submitted some basic dating questions, and I had two close guys in my life, one married and one single, answer them. It was so popular! I couldn’t believe the amount of people who texted me wondering who my mystery guys were, haha! Everyone really enjoyed hearing this “Dating 101” information from the perspective of men so I thought I should do similar post but from my perspective.

Every man and every woman is different. We have different views, interests, aspirations, etc. But we all share one common goal, to find love. We are all looking for that special someone to share our lives with. But again, we’re all different and have different preferences when it comes to finding that special someone, different qualities we find attractive. Here are the five top qualities I find attractive in a man AKA my man, Ryan! And don’t think because I said the word “attractive” that these are physical qualities. You’ll be surprised because not a single one is about physicality. Enjoy!

Is it just me, or am I the only one that can’t hear the word “respect” without thinking of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin? R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Such a big and important word. Respect is a huge foundational element in any relationship. Your partner should respect you as a person, respect your beliefs, respect your goals and dreams, respect your body, respect your friends and family. Here are some of the top ways Ryan shows me respect: He actively listens to me, encourages me to be my best, helps me with tasks when I need it, is absolutely kind to me, and is appreciative by saying “thank you” constantly. Not only is respect important in any relationship, but mutual respect is essential in a healthy relationship. Giving someone respect shows that they value you as a person. I know you know the Golden Rule, but just in case ya need a reminder: treat others how you want to be treated.

I cannot stand a cocky guy. They are arrogant, conceited, and way into themselves. But don’t get me wrong, I believe there’s a complete difference between being conceited and being confident. Confidence is something you should absolutely look for in a man. To me, confidence is a form of strength – emotionally and mentally. It’s not all about physical appearances. For example, most girls want the guy to make the first move in approaching them. I know this can be scary. It puts them in a very vulnerable place. But it takes a lot of guts for a guy to approach a woman out of the blue. That shows confidence. Ryan approached me when I was least expecting it, and I was completely taken aback. He was very persistent so that showed me that he knew what he wanted. There was no guessing, no wondering, no games! Totally attractive in my book!

There’s a difference between being your husband’s wife and being his mom. I’m not looking to be your mom; you’ve got one of those already! These are grown men we’re talking about. They should be able to take care of themselves, whether it’s them doing their own laundry, cooking meals, picking up after themselves, or taking care of their hygiene. I ESPECIALLY don’t want to have to tell you to shower and clean yourself. That should be obvious! Ryan is definitely into self-care. He exercises regularly, knows when he needs to eat healthy to balance his diet, and has great hygiene! He shares my love for skincare, which is a real winner in my book! When we first started dating he used a face wash and face moisturizer, which is WAY more than some men do. As we’ve gotten older, he’s stepped up his skincare game even more over the past two years with the help of Tiege Hanley. Men don’t like complicated things so Tiege Hanley has simplified the skincare routine to be easy and effective. Delivered every month, the kits come with step-by-step instructions on how and when to apply the products, along with pictures of how much product to use. It doesn’t get any better than that! Want to see who a man really is? Watch him play with a puppy. That’s what I always say! Guys let their guard down and show how loving and caring they are. That’s the kind of man you want! I remember when I first started dating Ryan, I was telling a friend about him, and she asked, “Is he sweet to you?” There was not an ounce of hesitation in my answer. Ryan is the epitome of sweet. He loves me through and through. And not just me, with my friends and my family, too. How he loves them is just as important as how he loves me. I constantly tell him that I’m going to be so jealous of our kids because they are going to have him as a dad. He’s going to love them, care for them, and spoil them! I can’t wait!

Sense of Humor
What’s that saying, “Life is better when you’re laughing”? I couldn’t agree more! One of my first memories of Ryan is he and I at a house party in college poking fun at each other and just giggling all night long. Such a sweet time in the beginning! Then, you go through a phase when you’ve heard all their jokes. There was a time when I heard Ryan constantly say, “You don’t laugh at my jokes anymore.” It’s not that I didn’t think they were funny, Ry. I was just laughing on the inside! Haha! But, he’s the funniest and most entertaining person I know! There’s not a day that goes by that Ryan doesn’t make me laugh or smile. Laughter helps us get through life. If you and your partner have a sense of humor, you can make the most out of any situation!

In my opinion, some of these qualities are deal breakers. If your guy does not treat you with respect, boy bye! There is not a single person on this planet who is entitled to treat you without respect. So obviously, that’s a deal breaker! If your guy is sloppy or doesn’t know how to cook, that’s not as big of a deal. He can always learn and get better at those! Bottom line, know your worth and know what you want out of your relationship. You all deserve the absolute best! XOXO
